Welcome to the large database demonstration site for FishCart. This site contains an automatically generated database with 200,000 products in it. It is designed to show that FishCart performs very well even with large numbers of products.

There are 20 top level categories. Each top level category has 100 subcategories under it. Under each subcategory are 100 products displayed 20 per page, for a total of 200,000 products.

In actual practice the category arrangement would probably be deeper, with more subcategory nesting levels. This would not alter performance, as the FishCart architecture is designed to work equally well regardless of the subcategory depth being accessed. Product selection by category only sees the current category and its associated products; the number of categories above or below the current level do not matter.

Subcategories can be nested as deeply as desired. There are no artificial limits on the depth, in that each subcategory only sees the level above it.

The number of columns used to show subcategories is controlled on a per-category basis, allowing maximum flexibility.

NB: Due to server loading the keyword search has been removed from this demonstration. The text entered is searched against the product SKU, product name, short description, description and keyword fields. Even with fulltext indexes and searches it is too slow to use with 200,000 products. This is not a FishCart limitation; it is the inherent nature of the SQL database engine in use (MySQL in this demonstration.)
